Koor paikneb lava ees madalamal.

"Estonian Ballads" is a cantata-ballet composed of several small narratives inspired by folk poetry. The play presents the audience with a colourful and humorous picture about the life and customs of ancient Estonians.

I solved the play as a modern ballet and was inspired in costume design by various dance styles and -poses. The design consists of hanging black-painted Styrofoam bog turfs, their movement creates different stage pictures, and black-and-white floating costumes and pastel-coloured bog-projections. The costumes of the dancers are coloured with light. The choir is situated lower in front of the stage.
